Self Development Software

So here on my quest of self-development I’ve decided to combine a few tactical pieces of software together to try and help keep my life organized
and efficient, here are some tools which I use personally use. Along with a small review.

1. Windows Live Writer (Portable)
convert it to a portable version here

Windows

I’ve realized that getting a blog up and running takes time and effort so to help cut the time in half I’ve decided to use a blogging client which will let me save
drafts on my thumb-drive and then simply upload and sync them onto my blog
when I’m ready. This app lets you write and save all your blog posts off of your thumb-drive and later syncs it together which is exactly what I was looking for. The thing which separates this from Zoundry Raven (another free blog client) is that It has a live spell check and it can download your current wordpress template so that you can see how it all looks.

  • Upload your notes, thoughts or posts to your blog on the fly
  • Download your current theme (for preview mode)
  • Auto-spell check
  • Emoticon ability
  • Extra plugins available for download
  • Ability to add new catagories

2. Wiki on a stick (Portable)

Wiki on a stick is like a personal wikipedia. It runs straight off of your thumbdrive (or any location)
It’s incredibly for when your reading a book or undertaking any material which
you need to take notes on because it allows you to collect your thoughts and go
back over your material until you fully understand and develop them.

  • Collect notes
  • Go over and organize information

4. My Life Organized

This application allows you to organize and keep track of your goals.
It’s really neat, simple and effective.

  • Set goals
  • Keep track of goals

5. Fusiondesk

This one is pretty cool, it’s just like My life organized (although I personal prefer my life organized) for goal tracking. The reason this one differentiates it’s self is because it has a timer option available in it’s tool settings. So if whether your doing Graphic Design, Music Production or wasting time on Facebook – this application logs how much time your taking and then saves all of that information into a .pdf file so you can review it and evaluate your effectiveness.

  • Time tracking (useful for effectiveness/productivity evaluation)

6. Tracks

This is another cool app and like the other two it allows you to monitor your tasks.
The reason this one differentiates it’s self because it has a statistics page

which lets you keep track of your efficiency – the more you try the more you’ll achieve and statistics show everything. If you want to be more pragmatic in your life and evaluate your your consistency and time spent,
then this tool will help you a lot.

Get the windows version of it here – http://bitnami.org/stack/tracks
